4. Will I be Emptied?



Will the tank be emptied after 20 minutes due to the leaks?

What do we have consider to solve this Maths problem?

a) No, as the water leaked out from the crack is very little.

b) Vol of water = 10500cm3
Vol of water leaked out = 45ml+25ml=70ml
=70cm3
70cm3x20=1400cm3
area of base = 35x10=350cm2
10500cm3-1400cm3=9100cm3
Height of water left = 9100cm3/350cm3=26cm

A rectangular tank 40cm by 20cm by 20cm contained some water. The ratio of the height of the water to the height of the tank was 2:5. All the water was drained out by a tap in 5 minutes. What was the rate of flow of water?

Machine A and machine B made pineapple tarts at a rate of 120 tarts per minute and 90 tarts per minute respectively. After 3/4h, machine A was stopped until machine B made the same number of tarts as machine A. Machine A was then started again.
a) How long was machine A stopped?
b) How many more tarts could be made if machine A was not stopped?

Method:

1st : add the total leakage from both cracks per min.

2nd : find the volume of water in the tank .

3rd : then take leakage times 20 (because of the 20mins)

4th : Vol of water - amount leaked out in 20mins = Square(i named it)

5th : take square devide by BASE AREA of the tank

6th : ANSWER~

70x20=1400cm3

10500-1400=9100cm3

35x10=350cm2

9100/350=26cm

Sorry Jill, Question A for the machine and the tarts is 15 mins. Question B is 1800 tarts.

a)3/4x60=45 mins
120x45=5400
90x45=4050
5400-4050=1350
1350/90=15 mins

b) 120x15=1800 tarts
